I stayed for three nights and paid around $500 for the hotel, but was charged $180 for parking. When I arrived, I was verbally told that parking was $20, which is also what the prominent sign at the entrance advertises: “Daily Parking $20.” The only place I saw the overnight rate was a small sign inside the garage stating $59 for overnight parking . This was not clearly communicated to me when I checked in, and the much more visible signage at the entrance prominently advertises $20 daily parking. I find this extremely misleading. Parking ended up costing almost half of what I paid for the hotel room itself. To make matters worse, on checkout day, housekeeping woke me up at 8:30 AM on Labor Day, while I was still a guest and had not checked out. Being woken up that early on a holiday was completely unnecessary and very frustrating. For a hotel at this price point, I expect transparent pricing and basic consideration for guests. The unexpected parking charge and the early housekeeping interruption significantly took away from the experience. If you stay here, I strongly recommend confirming the parking rate and any overnight charges in writing before parking your car.

Such a cool old hotel, right in the heart of downtown. The room was quiet and comfortable, the restaurant and bar onsite was great, and they kept the classic look of the building while providing the modern conveniences you would expect of a top tier hotel.

Had to give this 2 stars. The hotel is very mediocre but the location was great. Came for the world cup and the location was fantastic. What really put me off was the parking cost, after taxes and fees they charged $62 a night to park my rental car in their garage. It is totally absurd. Any guest that comes only gets charged $20, but because hotel guest cant go anywhere else they go for it! I was disappointed and will NOT! Be recommending this hotel to anyone else.

One of favorite hotels in Houston. The rooms are gorgeous and meticulously decorated and clean. Only thing missing is a spa. Friendly staff, wonderful valet service, great bar. Truly feels like a getaway.

The Hotel Icon met all our wedding needs. We had a small issue with room assignment but they fixed the issue and we had a great wedding weekend. The bar was popping and the valet bus service made the rain on Friday not an issue. If you have an event downtown I recommend the Hotel Icon.

Located on Main St with a great diversity of restaurants. The service is great! One of the few hotels that give room service daily. They have thier own restaurant which has good food. The rooms are well kept. And in my 10 days of staying here, I've never had a problem. Highly recommend.

Update: Feb 2026 - We have now stayed here three times since my original review and we absolutely love this place. We were upgraded to the Penthouse Suite last stay and highly recommend! Valet is still expensive but much simpler than self-parking. Staff is friendly as ever. 10/10 would stay and recommend. Original Review: Valet is definitely overpriced, but to their credit, the service was quick and the staff very friendly. The hotel itself is gorgeous with a great atmosphere, full of historic charm. Our room had an old A/C unit that initially made things feel damp, but once it cooled down, it was much more comfortable. The room was spacious with a large, beautiful bathroom featuring elegant tile, a deep soaking tub, and a big stand-up shower. Beds were super comfy, and even the elevators, though older, added to the vintage vibe in a good way. Overall, a great stay with tons of character!

I wish I could’ve stayed longer. It’s in such a great location, when you walk out, there’s a karaoke bar, and really fun nightlife places at night. And a beautiful walk during the day. Once you enter the hotel it’s different, it’s beautiful, historic, and quiet. The breakfast was actually pretty good. The rooms seemed sound proofed, so you couldn’t hear the noise or bustle from outside, they had amazing blackout curtains as well. I was having such a great time I forgot to take pictures unfortunately.

Hotel feels historic--partly because it was a bank building--and emphasizes Texas history of cows! In the room there are a total of six cow paintings (including a Hungarian cow) and the towel hanger is even shaped like a cow! The hotel definitely isn't new, but serves it's purpose. Furthermore, the staff were amazing and super friendly. To accommodate my need to use one of their "restricted" spaces for an orator competition, the staff allowed for me to temporarily use the area--super fair and polite and was not necessary. But the staff did so to help me, so I'm grateful. An iconic Hotel!

I really enjoyed my weekend at the Icon. It ended just the way it started with the nicest people working there, helping me bring my luggage, attending my every need right away. Trish checked me in and gave me a free breakfast voucher! She just gave me good vibes right away. Breakfast was top notch with a variety of options including amazing fresh fruit which I absolutely enjoyed. You definitely feel like you’re in a different era when you’re there but it is well kept and CLEAN. Kinda reminded me of The Shining lol because of the red doors. My room was very nice and comfortable, the bed was perfect and the bathroom was amazing, I opted for a tub option which was totally worth it. I came to Houston to take a class but at night I got dolled up and walked across the street to Angel Share which was just the right type of bar for me. But there are several options walking distance. Room service was so yummy especially when the employees are so nice. Overall I can’t wait to come back. One disappointment I had was when I was checking out the hotel options downtown I chose Icon because of the rooftop picture… I thought it was a rooftop bar but no it does not have a rooftop bar. That picture is from a suite they offer. But still I’d come back because it was clean, comfortable, great location, safe and the hospitality was amazing!

I absolutely love this hotel. The decor, the room, the comfort. An absolutely amazing experience. Check in was very easy and everyone was knowledgeable and friendly. The room is spacious and very comfortable. Huge shower and jacuzzi tub, only negative was the jacuzzi didn't work, no bubbles, so sad. Absolutely great experience. Keep in mind if you park the garage you will bring charged for valet service.
