This is the most unique and fun thing to do in Houston. Dinner, drinks, movies are ok. But when the four of us decided to celebrate a friend’s birthday, we wanted it to be fun.
Pamela and Tavie at Habibi Bazaar have created a top notch tufting workshop. It’s a do-it-yourself rug making experience. And by do-it-yourself, I mean Pamela and Tavie are there every step of the way.
I don’t claim to have a creative bone in my body nor do I know anything about rug making. And I didn’t have to. Pamela and Tavie spend a great deal of time teaching the do’s and don’t of tufting. With a wealth of experience, they explain the entire process in a fun and digestible way. Complete with a thorough demonstration and practice session, you are ready to dive in and create.
I was excited about doing this but the actual experience went above and beyond my expectations. I was surprised how comfortable I got so quickly. As you work on your rug, Pamela and Tavie walk around and give each person personal and undivided attention. They share tips and tricks and guide you the whole way. And the whole time they are cheering you on.
On top of this, they provide drinks and snacks and allow you to bring your own food and drink. We brought cupcakes and cookies to share for the birthday celebration. Also, they have the best music playlist!
I can’t say enough about this experience. It was not only the tufting workshop but it was the unique and personal experience that Pamela and Tavie created for us. At times, I found myself making mistakes and being too critical of this new skill I was learning. On a couple of occasions, Pamela was guiding me and told me to stop calling them mistakes and continued to encourage and inspire me. It also reminded me that it was supposed to be fun. And it was.
Pamela and Tavie, thank you a million times! We will be back again and again!

I was browsing various date night ideas, so when I came across Habibi Bazaar they STOOD OUT immediately! I hadn’t heard of rug tufting before or seen anything like it in Houston. I’m so happy I tried this place out. It was something new for me and my boyfriend who enjoy doing activities where we get to tap into our creativity! We were lucky enough to book on a less busy night and get a more 1-1 experience with the owners which made it even more unforgettable. They are great at coaching you through the steps, professional, and their taste in music is *chefs kiss*!
I enjoyed the vibes so much that I plan to go back to create a rug tufted mirror! Took a picture with one of the examples they had in their studio and this is something that I know would add so much character to my space. Can’t wait to be back :)
