A relict of a time when industrialists funded monuments and elaborate public spaces to capture the public's hearts. This park is on the territory of the former Shamrock Hotel, a massive Houston landmark that was demolished in 1987. The entrance "promenade" to the hotel was converted into this park, replete with massive fountains that would pour water onto a pool from their concrete heights. The concrete pillar fountains last functioned ~10-12 years ago per Google Maps. One might assume that the city either ran out of money or interest to keep them running. The central rectangular pool does fill up, however, from sprinkler runoff and rain. The concrete paths running beside the pool have fractured over time and the once-beautiful wooden "trellis arcades" are in varying stages of disrepair. However, the park is a rare oasis of calm in the middle of the TMC, and its somewhat-ruined appearance is its own aesthetic.

This was a nice park until they stopped maintaining it. The water fountains ⛲ don't have water anymore. The tall pillars were water fountains and they stopped running. The only good things here are the seating benches and walking paths for people and pets.

Amazing symphony, and the conductor and visiting pianist were talking before and after the show, explaining how it was for Beethoven during this time I. His life. The whole experience was thrilling and very informative. The piano was also exactly Luke Beethoven's own piano. It was really worth the cost of admission and MORE.

I love this little spot - it feels almost like a stage, with a lot of activity and hubbub nearby. There is a paved stone corridor that is more sequestered from the noise and goings-on with benches, but I like the feeling of immediacy and being at the heart/center of things I get when standing or sitting near the columns. Def check this place out if you’re nearby!
