We had dinner at Fielding’s Local in The Woodlands on August 8, 2026, with a party of four. It was our first visit, and unfortunately, it will also be our last.
The restaurant itself has nice décor and a lively atmosphere, but almost everything else about the evening was disappointing.
Service was extremely slow from beginning to end. Drinks from the bar took too long, appetizers were slow to arrive, and the entrées were even slower. At one point, I had to get up and go toward the kitchen myself to try to get ketchup that we had already requested and never received. We also ordered additional bread for the baked goat cheese appetizer, and it did not arrive until after our entrées were served.
We even asked a manager for the ketchup, but it still never came. No one apologized for the delays, offered an explanation, or came back to check on the table.
The food was just as disappointing.
The Baked Goat Cheese was actually very good and was one of the few bright spots of the meal. The Fried Okra, however, was badly overcooked.
I ordered the Veal Loin medium-rare, but it arrived overcooked. Because the food had already taken so long to arrive, I chose not to send it back. The carrots were undercooked, I did not eat the potato, and the mushrooms were good.
The steaks at the table were also overcooked and excessively charred. One filet was ordered blue rare and was nowhere close to that temperature.
The Brown Trout was also disappointing. Only about half of it was eaten because it tasted overwhelmingly of charcoal or wood smoke.
The Brussels Sprouts were the best dish of the evening and were genuinely very good.
We finished with the Banana Crème Brûlée, which was another disappointment. The combination of flavors simply did not work for us.
The bourbon, wine, and whiskey we ordered were all fine once they arrived, but bar service was noticeably slow as well.
For a dinner that cost roughly $400 for four people, the quality of both the food and service was nowhere near what I would expect at this price point. A restaurant can have an occasional overcooked dish or a slow moment in service, but when drinks, appetizers, entrées, basic requests, and multiple dishes all miss the mark in the same evening, it becomes difficult to dismiss as an isolated problem.
Overall, I would rate the food about 3 out of 10. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the goat cheese and Brussels sprouts were good, but those few positives were overshadowed by slow and inattentive service, overcooked food, excessive charring and smoke flavors, and very poor value for the price.
Our first visit to Fielding’s Local was unfortunately an awful experience, and based on this dinner, we would not return.
