Cancelled reservations on two occasions because they got hired by a private event. Disgraceful. I wouldn’t piss on this place if it were on fire.

1 star due to last minute cancellation. Coming from someone that doesn’t take any time off from my business or family. I drove an hour to finally have a good experience to which I paid for to just get cancelled due to a private party… I know who it is…. I found out because I know people so I hope you guys are reading this review. Never booking again.

Inconsistent dress code enforcement. Their website says nothing about sneakers. It says business casual. Clean sneakers are worn at all events but apparently, this establishment has yet to receive the memo. I was turned away because they did not care for my Adidas Sambas even though there was a gentleman clearly being served in New Balance. Then the excuse was that his were low profile and he got there before the bouncer. What is more low-profile than Sambas? I am thankful that I make good money and have plenty of choices where I spend it.

I totally understand having a dress code. But this restaurant apparently has a different dress code for women and men. We went here on a Friday night at 9pm to get drinks after dinner. Not crowded, almost empty. My sister was in a nice long dress with sneakers. The host eyed us up and down and said he didn’t know if we could come in because of how casual she was dressed (bc sneakers). He got the manager who also eyed everyone up and down and said the same- we couldn’t come in because of her sneakers. However, her boyfriend, also in sneakers, was dressed totally fine. We asked if they allow men to wear sneakers but don’t allow women to, and the manager said yes and my sister in particular was the only one too casual. They could not explain why different rules applied to women and men. We will not be returning.

Have been going to this place for multiple years and they have charged several times extra drinks on my tab and I heard similar things from other friends. Yesterday we got a round of drinks and we asked the bartender to make one of the drinks non alcoholic . He charged me the same price as an alcoholic drink , when confronted him he said “ I didn’t hear it and I put alcohol in the drink “ . He straight up LIED my friend’s drink had NO alcohol. Didn’t bother to waste my time for a few dollars but what an unprofessional bartender and place . They didn’t bother to at lease apologize or refund the money. Whoever is in charge of training the servers and bartenders in this place perhaps is the one instructing the workers to do this unethical and fraudulent activity. They do the same exact thing at theirs other establishments “Melrose”. Sad for nice places to be so dishonest, unprofessional, and instead of taking care of their customers they push them away! Disgusting and disappointing! Crooks!

The atmosphere and service were good. The only thing I didn’t like was they included a 20% gratuity automatically along with a 3.5% venue fee. There were only 3 of us in our group. I don’t mind tipping but it’s a turnoff when it’s forced. Cool place but I don’t know that I will go back.

If you love a vintage, glamorous 1930s vibe, this bar delivers. Early in the night it’s perfect for conversation, and later a DJ brings the energy—fair warning, it can get a bit loud. The drinks are standout: beautifully crafted and delicious.

We stopped by Clarkwood after dinner to continue celebrating our anniversary, and it reminded us exactly why this place is still just as good as ever. The crowd is always high-class, respectful, and well-mannered — the kind of environment where everyone is kind, educated, and just genuinely pleasant to be around. The space is clean, polished, and beautifully maintained, and the overall vibe feels elevated without ever being pretentious. Every server behind the bar was great — attentive, friendly, and welcoming — and the mocktails were excellent. There are plenty of options for all types of people, whether you’re drinking, not drinking, or just looking for something fun and well-crafted. You never feel limited here, which we really appreciate. That said, Angel deserves a special shoutout. He is such a sweetheart and an amazing server — always looking on point, super kind, and genuinely attentive. Once he knew it was our anniversary, he went out of his way to hype me up, compliment me, and make the experience feel even more special. It was thoughtful, warm, and truly made us feel celebrated. The music was great all night — amazing energy even without a DJ — their playlist was great and everything flowed perfectly for an after-dinner stop. Clarkwood consistently delivers great vibes, great people, and great service, and this visit was no exception. If you’re looking for a classy spot with an inviting atmosphere, amazing staff, and something for everyone, Clarkwood is always a solid choice. We’ll definitely be back.

Elegant Cocktail Heaven in Montrose! One of the best upscale bar in Houston. The Old World elegance and moody lighting create a perfect, sophisticated atmosphere for a date night. Their craft cocktails are true artistry. Fantastic service and great outdoor patio space. Pure five-star luxury.

Great Drinks & Vibe, But Pricey and Crowded Clarkwood has some of the best cocktails in town, and the bartenders really know their craft—every drink was top-tier. The ambiance is stylish and upscale, but it gets extremely crowded, making it tough to fully enjoy the space. Prices are definitely on the higher end, which is expected, but it still feels a bit steep. The crowd leans very River Oaks, so it lacks the diversity you’d find at other spots in Houston. Honestly, it feels like it would be more at home on Westheimer. Still, if you’re looking for expertly crafted drinks in a swanky setting, it’s worth a visit!

If you’re unsure what to order, the staff does an amazing job helping you find a drink tailored to your preferences. Clarkwood has a somewhat inconsistent policy regarding charging at the door. I’ve visited multiple times without any cover charge, but on one occasion, they attempted to charge $2,000 for two people, which is bizarre, especially considering my previous visits. This lack of consistency is frustrating and detracts from the otherwise great experience. Despite this, Clarkwood remains a top choice for those looking for a high-end bar in Houston with a vibe that feels straight out of New York. Just be prepared for the possibility of an unexpected cover charge.

It was a pleasant surprise to find out we share the same university alumni, which added a personal touch to the evening.
