We had an amazing experience on the Bat Bridge kayak tour, and Ian made it unforgettable from start to finish. He was engaging, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about both Houston and the bayou. Throughout the tour, he shared fascinating facts and history about the city, the wildlife, and the waterways that made the whole experience feel immersive and unique.
One of the most memorable moments was a distant encounter with a gator. Ian handled the situation with complete calm and professionalism, reassuring everyone while clearly explaining how to safely navigate the area. His confidence and experience immediately put us at ease, and we felt safe the entire time.
The tour was the perfect mix of fun, adventure, and education, and Ian’s personality really elevated the experience. If you’re considering the Bat Bridge tour, we highly recommend going with Ian, he’s an outstanding guide and made our evening on the bayou so special.

I booked the Buffalo Bayou Kayak Tours evening bat tour while visiting Houston, and it was such a fun and memorable experience. I wanted to do something different with my sister, and this was a great way to spend time together while seeing Houston from a unique perspective.

Ian was our guide and he was excellent, helpful, knowledgeable, and made the tour feel organized and safe. We chose a tandem kayak, which I would recommend if you want to share the work, especially since the first part of the tour goes upstream and there were some stronger currents under the bridges. It was definitely a workout, but very doable if you are in decent health.

The highlight was watching thousands of bats fly out from under the Waugh Drive Bridge from the water. It was such a cool experience, and seeing it from a kayak made it feel even more special. The paddle back in the dark was peaceful and much easier with the current.

For about $60 per person plus tax, I thought this was a great value for a three-hour guided tour with all equipment included. Whether you live in Houston or are just visiting, I highly recommend Buffalo Bayou Kayak Tours, especially the evening bat tour.

Went yesterday, rented a tandem kayak for an hour. They had it ready ahead of the scheduled time, and helped us learn how to kayak. Great service and friendly staff.

Kaleb was great!!! We accidentally scheduled the wrong day and he politely rescheduled us for our intended day and time. He was great at getting us set up for the rental and told us the landscape of all three launch tributaries. I would definitely recommend!

Tried out this tour and we loved it. David was very knowledgeable and provided great info on Houston, the bayou and the area. I had an 18 year old and 10 year old and they both had a blast and even learned something. Definitely a must do and great way to spend time with kids.

We recently did a 10am tour and it was great. Word of warning that the meet point confused us, but when we called, we were guided to the right spot. The boat let-in is kind of behind the building and down a path.

Anyway, we also purchased a dry bag which was reasonably priced and generously sized. It was large enough to fit 3 cell phones with tons of room leftover.

The guides took turns chatting with all guests and relaying facts about Houston, the scenery, and wildlife. My husband was elated to have the ducks climbing onto his kayak and one of the guides had duck food and explained he's seen a few generations of these ducks at this point.

We rowed to Allen's landing and before turning around to return to a start point.

We expected to have fun on Buffalo Bayou Kayak Tours, but they exceeded our expectations. They were knowledgeable and caring, I immediately felt like my 8 year old was safe under their guidance. They not only knew kayaking, but shared a lot of information about Houston that our party had never heard before as natives. And the end of our tour, they invited us back for a bayou 'clean up' event that they do once a month. It was nice to see that they actually care about the bayou, not just their business.
