Nice quiet place to go for a walk and to watch birds or go fishing. Restrooms have running water and soap and are clean. Great observation tower for watching birds on the lake (bring a spotting scope if you have one.) Boardwalks are well maintained. There are picnic tables. No playground. Dogs are allowed on leash. There are alligators, so don't let your dogs off leash.

Hidden gem not far from Houston with FREE entrance. Nice getaway from the city for fishing, small hike or just a picnic.

Great place to see some nature or a bike ride. Only one way in and out so no thru traffic. Each loop about 4 miles. I ride my triathlon bike out here a lot. About as safe as it gets. I've had my grandkids out here to check out the wildlife. 1st time they have seen a gator or a snake in the wild. Very well kept, nice park rangers.

Beautiful park, it’s small the observatory tower was closed so we couldn’t go up there. I saw one alligator and some egg shells on the trail next to holes on the ground not sure what animal it belonged too but was so interesting to see. Definitely take water and bug spray.

It's quiet and good for a walk. Due to the season, there are mosquitoes. There were a lot of holes. I was curious as to what they were, so I contacted the State Park. Here is the answer I got. Thank you so much!"That is a hole made by a crayfish, also known as a crawdad or mudbugs! They make these chimneys to burrow down to the water table. They occupy their burrows for protection and to get the moisture they require to breathe through their gills."

I had heard about this state park but never been there. We decided to go check it out. This is a hidden gem!!! There's so much scenery, awesome trails and not crowded at all. Very peaceful and full of wildlife. I highly recommend for a quick getaway and pack a lunch there's plenty of places to sit and eat/rest. FYI- pets have to be on a leash.
