Went for happy hour. Nice place. Attentive service. It's in the Montrose collective, so you know it's going to be overpriced and likely good service. Possibly more about the scene than the food.
HH Cocktails $8, "with choice of mixer." Not bad for a fancy place right? Fine print under the item...If served up or on the rocks, extra charge. So the gin and tonic is $8, but the ice or the shake costs extra. Really, not joking. I actually asked as I'd never seen something so ridiculous on a drink menu. The person who came up with that should be moved out of a customer facing job. So the drinks are $9. Still not awful for a fancy place. And the pour was nice. Solid drinks. Bad semantics.
The good: Caesar salad fantastic. Creamy, anchovy shines thru, right amount of dressing, with crumbled yolk and shaved parm and a thinly cut, very crispy large crouton. One of the best Caesars I've had. Bolognese really good. Creamy, not broth-based like the real thing, but still a very well-crafted and complex sauce. Rigatoni with vodka excellent. The actual pasta on both pasta dishes was really good. PEI oysters were great. Especially for $2.
The bad: Meatballs meh. Beef tartar tasteless. Meh is too flattering. Seemed like good ingredients, just had no taste.
I would avoid at full price. Worth a try for happy hour, which was $120 for 2, incl 2 drinks each, and tip. Stick with salad and pastas.
